this is something that has always bothered me.
as a born-in jw i was raised as a little girl wearing skirts and dresses which is clearly quite normal in terms of gender-appropriate clothing.
however, the older i grew, the more i realised that all jw women and girls wore skirts to meetings and when out in fs, but would wear trousers in their everyday life.
OMG I WANT that cherry dress! Go with my cherry tattoo!
I wasnt never told nt to waer trousers. It was a casual remark to my study teacher like "Why do you wear skirts if its not scriptual" and she said "its more befitting to us, and emphasises our feminine nature" etc...and yep, I fell in line cos I didnt want to be the odd one out.
After all my WT went in the bin, I threw away all my KH clothes, they were more suited to a 80 year old than me. Great to be free, in so many ways!
my friend called round before and has just left.
he told me that he was worried about me and that he wanted to speak to me as to why i havnt been going to the meetings or on the field service.
i told him that im just not discussing the reasons at all.

Let them do what they will, you dont have to answer questions, take calls, answer your door....you are not on trial and dont need to dignify them with a response to anything. Forget them. Get out there. LIVE!!!!!! You will soon make new friends who love you for everything you are. They are a cult. Youve taken the first step by not going to meetings, now take it a step further, take back YOUR control and have nothing to do with them.

but if you were a convert (or near-convert, like i was) did you have to change your lifestyle in order to conform to the expectations of the society?.
But Nikolas, Im not married to a devout JW as you are. I feel for you. My husband is agnostic, and while it was hard while I was studying, Im so grateful for him standing by his views while standing by me. You go through it everyday, for me its over. Im grateful for that. Best wishes x

All the friends I ever had, my self-respect, and my thinking and reasoning ability.
i know some here seem to truly be interested in everyone's welfare.
they seem to be really troubled/happy by another poster's health, life, children, job, sex life, worries, anxieties---you name it, they're very involved in "caring" about people that they hardly know.. i have forged some friendships, i've met some great people on this site.
i've communicated with many nice people here.
I try to see some good in everyone x

Being a "giver and worrier" is hard work and makes me tired. I sometimes cant sleep. I wish I could switch my brain off sometimes. x
Ive found more understanding here re the JW situation than I ever have in real life with so called friends and family.
I like it here, but its full on sometimes and I just have to lay low for a while.

i could not help but think of my devout witness wife when i saw this in yesterday's funny pages:.
it is reminiscent of something she said awhile back about being restored to all the glories of youth when the new system comes.
from my non-theist perspective this is a sad example of escapism.

I do feel a bit sorry for devout JWs, they are so busy waiting and wishing on paradise earth they forget to live in the now for today, really "Live" if you know what I mean. The life they have now doesnt seem that important and that saddens me a great deal. Im learning to take each day as it comes, and relish everything about my life, even the crappy bits instead of dreaming about whats to come.....or not as the case may be.
